Dear Sir /Madam:
The City of Durham Public Works Department is administering a contract for stabilization
of stream banks of Rocky Creek, a tributary of Third Fork Creek. The stream banks and
adjacent stream buffer areas were damaged recently. The goal of this project is to
restore the buffer area and stabilize the stream bank by using brush mattress. I have
previously discussed this project with Cherri Smith of your division.

manual as well as buffer planting recommendations by NCDWQ. For example, staging and access area will not be in the work area and specific trees
such as Sycamore and River Birch will be planted in the buffer area.

The brush mats are a revegetation technique that provides protective covering to an eroding slope or stream bank as soon as it is installed. The
construction techniques use a combination of equipment and hand work.
