Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point (Permit NC0003816) submits
the following in response to your NOTICE OF VIOLATION (NOV) letter with
tracking number NOV-2021-MV-0067 dated August 4, 2021.
The NOV was issued for. failing to monitor the parameter, mercury,
within the second quarter of calendar year 2021.
The failure to monitor mercury within the second'quarter of calendar
year 2021 was due to an in-house laboratory accident that resulted in the
loss of the sample. The analysis was conducted late in the quarter resulting
in an insufficient amount of time for the laboratory to meet the reporting
requirements.
MCAS Cherry Point lab personnel have adjusted the parameter scheduling
for mercury by conducting the sampling earlier in the quarter. This will
allow for adequate time in the quarter to run additional samples to meet the
reporting requirement in case of another loss of sample was to occur.
The required mercury sampling for third quarter of calendar year 2021
was conducted on July 15, 2021.
