The Division of Water Resources ( NCDWR) has reviewed the request from NCDOT's Hydraulics Unit, concerning the
discharge of stormwater through deck drains, from the proposed bridge (TIP No. 4733) on NC Highway 175, over Lake
Chatuge, in Clay County. Based on NCDOT's memos dated August 6, 2013 from Randy Henegar, PE and August 20,
2013 from Andrew T. Nottingham, PE, discussing stormwater treatment alternatives and additional bridge costs we have
decided that NCDOT will not have to comply with the requirements for deck drain discharge listed as Condition 9. in
Water Quality Certification Nos. 3891 and 3893.
Removal of the bridge deck drain condition only applies to TIP Project No. B -4733 and shall not be applied to any other
project without written permission from the Division of Water Resources.
This letter completes the review of the Division of Water Resources under Section 401 of the Clean Water Act. If you
