along the South Fork of the Catawba
River in the Town of Cramerton,
Gaston County
Dear Ms. Higgins:
Our firm received your response to the FERC permit to construct a pedestrian bridge
across the South Fork of the Catawba River for access to Goat Island Park and various canoe
portages and observation platforms. This project is located within the FERC project boundary of
Lake Wylie in Gaston County, North Carolina. As a requirement to the FERC permit application,
we are required to respond to the comments offered by your agency. This correspondence along
with your responses will be included in the application package that will be sent to FERC and
Duke Power.
The permit issued for the construction of the bridge on August 24, 2011 did have a
condition (condition 18 on page 4) which allowed the placement of a temporary causeway. The
Town will submit a revised application showing the temporary stream impacts for the
construction of the bridge and will include the addition of the observation platform adjacent to the
bridge.
The six other amenities, three canoe portages and three observation platforms are on
other properties and will be permitted under a separate permit prior to any construction activity.
