Eligible and listed bridges are noted on HPOWeb. Since it’s not indicated as such on their maps then
it has not been determined eligible

Does it matter that the bridge was built in 1929? I forgot to mention that yesterday.

Looking at HPOWeb there is nothing in the immediate surrounds of the bridge.

Subject: bridge 203 Buncombe cultural resources
Good afternoon,
We are going to perform emergency repair to bridge 203 in Buncombe County. It is located on SR
2416 Warren Wilson Road and spans Beetree Creek. The coordinates are 35.612629, -82.427009.
Bridge inspections revealed a scour hole/void that extends approximately 7 feet behind an abutment
and underneath the road which may cause the bridge or roadway to collapse. The plan is to dewater
the site, build forms to pump concrete to seal off the footer, and bore in from above and shoot in
grout to fill the void. Riprap will be placed in front of the abutment footer to prevent future scour.
We have talked with Lori Beckwith at USACE and met on-site with Kevin Mitchell of NC DEQ. Both
have agreed to pursue this with an after-the-fact permit. Lori recommended contact you to see if
there are any cultural resources in the area that need to be considered during this operation. Any
assistance you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Please call my mobile number below if you
have any questions.
Thanks for your help,
Yates Allen
