NOTICE OF A CITIZENS INFORMATIONAL WORKSHOP FOR THE PROPOSED
U.S. 17 HAMPSTEAD BYPASS
TIP Project No. R -3300
New Hanover and Pender Counties
The North Carolina Department of Transportation proposes to construct a bypass
of U.S. 17 around Hampstead. NCDOT will hold a meeting to update the public about
the bypass project on Thursday, August 15, from 4 — 7 p.m. at Topsail High School,
located at 245 N. St. Johns Church Road in Hampstead.
The purpose of the meeting is to present information about changes to the U -.S.
17 Hampstead Bypass design. In response to citizens' comments, NCDOT has
explored options for providing access to existing U.S. 17 north of Topsail High School
from the proposed bypass. The purpose of the meeting is to present the revised
preliminary design, which now incorporates access north of the school. A supplemental
Draft Environmental Impact Statement (SDEIS) will be completed in Fall 2013. The
supplemental DEIS will be placed on the project's website for public review and input at
http: / /www. ncdot.gov /projects /US17Hampstead Bypass /.
Interested citizens may attend at any time during the meeting hours, as there will
be no formal presentation. NCDOT representatives will be available to answer
questions and listen to comments regarding the project. Citizens will also have the
opportunity to submit comments and questions in writing. The comments and
information received will be taken into consideration as the project develops.
