George Galleherjust advised me that the Wateree Outage ended at 11:15 today much ahead of schedule and that
following completion we immediately started running two units. Good outcome. Thanks for your help.

Here is a summary of all consultation comments we have received to -date re: the subject Wateree outage (there were a
couple of other questions related to expected downstream water levels during the outage). I think they are very
reasonable. This note serves to confirm our intention to follow these comments /recommendations.
• Duke Energy will advise if work is rescheduled (primarily due to high flows). High flows are not expected at this
time.
• We will minimize outage time while performing work safely.
• Duke Energy will generate all five units at Wateree Hydro from 5:00 AM to 8:00 AM the morning the outage
begins in order to fill /raise downstream pool levels prior to the outage and to extend pool drain -out times.
• We will notify you if the outage is delayed and /or when it is over.
• If the outage is rescheduled, we have been asked to reschedule to a cooler (October /November suggested)
season to reduce stress to aquatic organisms. No reschedule is currently expected. If a reschedule is needed, we
will have to also consider the already limited availability of the crew doing the work.

Subject: Catawba - Wateree Maintenance and Emergency Protocol (MEP) Notification - Wateree Station Outage August

Duke Energy is planning a short outage at Wateree Hydro in order to work on the five Generator Step Up Transformers
located over the tailrace. We are building spill containment around these transformers and the current location of the
neutral grounding connections must be relocated. In order to perform this work safely, the transformers must be
completely de- energized, meaning the units cannot be operating. The outage is currently planned for Thursday, August
15 from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. However, if we have to continue to run units due to high lake levels, this work may have to
be rescheduled to a later time.
During this time no water will be able to be released from any of the five units. The reservoir level should remain within
its normal range (assuming of course no extreme rainfall events). If we successfully meet our schedule, we will not
impact any scheduled recreation flow releases. No impacts to flow releases or reservoir levels at any other Catawba -
Wateree hydro stations in North Carolina or South Carolina are expected.
I am making this voluntary notification (the New License has not been issued yet) and initiating consultation in
accordance with the Catawba - Wateree Comprehensive Relicensing Agreement (CRA) Maintenance and Emergency
Protocol (MEP). Per the MEP (see CRA Appendix D), this event is considered to be Condition A.1 - Scheduled Hydro Unit
Maintenance. Please respond at your earliest convenience. Thank you.
