I'm ok with this AMP, but I will be paying attention to the location and percentage of box elder proposed on future projects. Thanks! Erin B. Due mostly to trying to find another species with high survivability/tolerance and higher growth rates but also it was going to be readily available. Over the years we had pushed to minimize box elder, now it seems like it will be on the rise again. Honestly I'm not sure what the alternative is right now. I think as long as we can keep it from being planted over the entire site and limit it to certain planting zones it's acceptable. That's my 2 cents. Kim noted that NCWRC might come back with some additional comments. 10% box elder in the supplemental plantings. I guess I'm not going to kick and scream about their plan, as this isn't for the entire site and is just being used to fill in some poorly performing patches, but I really don't like the overall dependence on larger system species (40% of the stems being sycamore, river birch, box elder) - I want to stay on top of this for the future in case this is what we see for overall planting plans. Do you think it's OK to go ahead and support their proposed AMP planting plan? I. Yes, they definitely changed the planting plan from what they'd noted in the June meeting notes. I saw our email approving of the plan. They are bringing in a number of species that weren't in the mit plan or their meeting notes, including box elder, which we're seeing more of in the past year since green ash is out. I'm not sure about a higher dependence on box elder in general (I don't see it a lot in riparian zones except on larger systems), and I'm ccing Travis and Erin here to note this. Something for discussion. I've been working with Jeff to get this rolling soon because they want to get the repairs done before November. They did change a few proposed species from the approved list, so I wanted to make sure you were OK with these. I plan to follow up with Jeff next week some time. Thanks and have a good weekend! kim Kim Browning Mitigation Project Manager, Regulatory Division I U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Original Message From: Wiesner, Paul <paul.wiesner@ncdenr.gov> Sent: Wednesday, August 18, 2021 2:10 PM To: Haywood, Casey M CIV (USA) <Casey.M.Haywood@usace.army.mil>; Davis, Erin B <erin.davis@ncdenr.gov>; Browning, Kimberly D CIV USARMY CESAW (USA) <Kimberly.D.Browning@usace.army.mil>; Tugwell, Todd J CIV USARMY CESAW (USA) <Todd.J.Tugwell@usace.army.mil> Cc: Tsomides, Harry <harry.tsomides@ncdenr.gov>; Jeff Keaton <jkeaton@wildlandseng.com>; Shawn Wilkerson <swilkerson@wildlandseng.com>; Jordan Hessler <jhessler@wildlandseng.com>; Kristi Suggs <ksuggs@wildlandseng.com> Subject: [Non-DoD Source] IRT Review Request: Adaptive Management Plan (AMP) - Vile Creek (DMS#96582) - (SAW- 2014-01585) (DWR#20140869) - New River Basin (05050001) Casey, Erin, Kim and Todd; The Adaptive Management Plan (AMP) for the Vile Creek site (DMS# 96582) was posted to the IRT Sharepoint site and DWR Laserfiche on August 18, 2021 for your review.
