Paul created the water system including the 5 concrete raceways and the 3 trout ponds, Paul and his wife operated a small trout farm.As far as I know, no permit was ever applied for. Black arrows represent water discharge t Discharge Square tj represents a fish hatchery Circles represent 0building 3 trout ponds 0 Discharge Rectangle represents 5 trout raceways Stream water enters - -1. Fr raceways by gravity flow The stream water enters our property at our upper raceway. There are 5 raceways containing rainbow trout. Each raceway delivers water to the raceway below it by gravity flow.At the end of raceway#5 is an underground pipe that delivers water to the first of 3 ponds. The first pond delivers water via a waterfall to the lower pond by gravity flow. The second pond delivers water via a waterfall to the third pond. The third pond discharges the water back to the stream via a waterfall. Each pond is approximately 50,000 gallons and each has a fountain to help aerate the water. This system was in place when we purchased the property in July 2000.The square in this map is the hatchery building which we had built. The water that flows into the hatchery is supplied by 3 wells. We do not use stream water for our hatchery. The discharge from the hatchery goes into a fiberglass settling tank that supplies a waterfall. The waterfall has an overflow to the stream, but we believe that most of the water evaporates. The raceways are occasionally cleaned of waste material. The waste material goes into an earthen settling tank that does not discharge to the stream. Alternative to direct discharge Connection to a Regional Sewer System is not available in our area. Subsurface disposal may not be practical in this situation. Spray irrigation may be possible. We use fountains and waterfalls for this now.
