The North Carolina Division of Water Resources conducted an inspection of the Hemac Trout Farm on
9/08/2021. This inspection was conducted to verify that the facility is operating in compliance with the
conditions and limitations specified in NPDES WW Permit No. NCG530076. The findings and comments
noted during this inspection are provided in the enclosed copy of the inspection report entitled
"Compliance Inspection Report".

There were no significant issues or findings noted during the inspection and therefore, a response to this
inspection report is not required.

Lauren Armeni and Tim Fox, with the Asheville Regional Office, conducted a Compliance Evaluation
Inspection of Hemac Trout Farm on September 8, 2021. The inspection was conducted to determine
if the system is being operated and maintained in compliance with General NPDES Permit No.
NCG530000.
Prior to the inspection, Ms. Armeni spoke with Mr. Brian Bone of Highlander Organic, LLC (current
property owner), and he confirmed that there was no intention to use the property as a trout farm;
therefore, he requested that the permit be rescinded.
During the inspection, Ms. Armeni and Mr. Fox met with one of the previous owner's, Mr. Reijo
Kainulainen, and he stated that the trout farm hasn't been in operation for two years. It was confirmed
that the trout farm is no longer in operation. The intake was taken down this year, so no water is
flowing through or exiting the effluent pipe. The permit will be rescinded per Mr. Bone's request.
