Hi Scott,
DEQ supports MS4s utilizing the best solutions to implement the permit requirements. Therefore,
hiring staff or a consultant does not require a change to the SWMP, but a change to the timeframe
for hiring the help needed would.
Hope that helps,
J

Good Afternoon Jeanette,
I hope you are doing well. I had a question about or MS4 mapping. In this year (year 1) we are to
select a consultant to do our mapping. We have met with some of our Regional Stormwater
Partnership members about their processes. We would like to instead hire a new Stormwater
position that would oversee the mapping projects (among many other SWMP matters).
Furthermore, I intend on hiring some interns to assist that person in mapping the City’s Stormwater.
Would that be acceptable to change our SWMP to follow that methodology? I am going to have a
field visit from Monroe Stormwater Department to walk through their process of doing the same
with iPads, staff, and interns. I believe we would have a better feel for everything and would assist
our new position to have mapped what they will be inspecting and working off of for many other
Stormwater assignments. I would hire that position during permit year 1 and stay on track with our
MS4 Map creation outlined below, just not with a consultant. Please let me know if I left anything
out or if you need any clarification.
