Dear Mr. Boss:
This letter is provided in response to your correspondence that was received via email on
August 30, 2021.
As reported, there was 600 gallons of Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) into nearby Cope
Creek, entering from manhole S101 DA16 caused by a grease blockage downstream at
Zaxby's restaurants tap. Once reported TWSA immediately dispatched the jet machine
crew to the site and removed the grease blockage and had the line back to normal flow.
TWSA crew also cleaned and spread lime around the manhole.
Since this incident, TWSA has done 2 onsite inspections and has had conversations with
the manager about proper disposal, storage and handling of grease. TWSA crews have
also performed a die test on kitchen sinks to verify proper connections to the grease trap.
Monthly inspections will continue until TWSA is confident that the issue is completely
resolved. This is in addition to the semi-annual FOG inspections we perform at all
restaurants on our system.

The self -reported Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) 5-Day Report submitted by Tuckaseigee Water and Sewer
Authority indicates violations of permit conditions stipulated in the subject permit and North Carolina G.S.
143-215.1. Violations include failing to effectively manage, maintain, and operate the subject collection system so
that there is no SSO to the land or surface waters and making an outlet to waters of the State for purposes of
G.S. 143-215.1(a)(1), for which a permit is required.
