Dear Mayor Darden:
I enjoyed meeting with you and Commissioner Alan Harris of the Town,
and John Boykin, Jim Balance with Envirolink, Inc., your wastewater contract
operators.. We discussed several things at our meeting of which I will try to list:
1, The importance of quality control testing at the wastewater treatment
plant in order to stay current with the performance of the facility. The minimum
daily testing should include the aeration basin's dissolved oxygen, mixed liquor
settleable solids, clarifier blanket readings,: wasting -gallons per day, and influent
pump run time:
2. We also discussed the relationship of the ammonia nitrogen test and the
BOD. The Hach Test kit can be used for process control as a projection of the
BOD. The kit is cat. #2241-00 with a range of 0-3 mg/1 graduated in tenths: Cost
is less than $50. This information can be of value.for projecting the bod.
3. We also spoke of taking extra lab samples when necessary in order to
help the monthly average stay in compliance.

4. We also discussed the BOD loading coming to the wastewater
treatment plant being stronger (400+ mg/1) than average domestic wastewater
(200) and the possible contributor. It was recommended to the Mayor that a letter
be sent to all restaurants, fast foods, school cafeterias and rest homes asking if
they have a grease trap, frequency of cleaning and if they have a garbage grinder
and the estimated number .of pounds of food disposed of daily through the
grinder.
5. I was satisfied with our inspection of Hog Slats, but I would still be
insistent in knowing when the oil -water separator is pumped, just to eliminate the
possibility of the septage truck bringing in waste from out of town and
discharging it into the collection system.
It will take an awareness on everyone's part to help and identify the
source of the high organic load to the wastewater treatment plant. I welcome any
comments or questions to help bring this recurring problem to a closure.

which collection of composite samples is commenced or data shall e entere onto the monitoring report
form on the date that has the greater number of hours in it. The following examples will assist you in
understanding the reporting date:
