Mason,
We investigated this loss of sediment earlier (around June 9)with Amy, Barry and the Corp. We found sediment about
900 ft downstream and removed by hand as directed. Sediment beyond that point was not enough to remove. The lake
is an estimated 1.5 miles for the project and a logging operation was going on between us and the lake. We discussed
getting geotech to investigate the actual sediment in the lake at the last Monthly Const. Meeting, but the group decided a
significant amount of sediment from the project was unlikely and possibly from the logging operation so we decided
against investigating. Mr. Farlow has talked to me recently about the sediment. I tried to meeting with him Friday but he
was not available.
What action should we take? What about the logging operation?

Subject: R -2606B Complaint
Gentlemen:
The Division of Water Quality has received a complaint from Mr. Wyatt Farley (336) 498 -8312 who owns the pond
downstream of Permit Site 24 which has suffered two sediment loss events. Mr. Farley's complaint is that sediment from
the R -2606 project has accumulated in his pond and he is requesting that the Department of Transportation remove this
sediment. DWQ is requesting that the Department meet with Mr. Farley as soon as possible to investigate and discuss
his complaint. DWQ request that you contact us after your meeting with Mr. Farley with the details of your findings and
how the Department plans to address Mr. Farley's complaint. Your immediate and prompt response to this complaint is
requested. If the Department and Mr. Farley cannot reach an amicable resolution to this issue, DWQ will conduct its own
investigation and take the appropriate action required to resolve this issue in accordance with NCDOT's permit and state
water quality regulations.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this issue and if I can be of any assistance please let me know.
