The North Carolina Division of Water Resources conducted an inspection of the Nantahala Trout Farm
on 8/10/2021. This inspection was conducted to verify that the facility is operating in compliance with
the conditions and limitations specified in NPDES WW Permit No. NCG530121. The findings and
comments noted during this inspection are provided in the enclosed copy of the inspection report
entitled "Compliance Inspection Report".

There were no significant issues or findings noted during the inspection and therefore, a response to this
inspection report is not required. Please give me a call if you would like further information on requesting a
rescission of the permit.

Lauren Armeni and Tim Fox, with the Asheville Regional Office, conducted a Compliance Evaluation
Inspection of the Nantahala Trout Farm on August 10, 2021. The inspection was conducted to
determine if the system is being operated and maintained in compliance with General NPDES Permit
No. NCG530000.
On August 9, 2021, Ms. Armeni spoke with Ms. Martha Holder (wife of Delmar Holder) regarding the
status of the trout farm. She indicated that the property had not been used as a trout farm for the
past seven years and that it is in the process of being sold.
Ms. Armeni and Mr. Fox confirmed that the trout farm is no longer in operation; however, the water
intake is still flowing through the raceways and out the effluent pipe. It is recommended that the water
intake be removed in order to stop the system from discharging.
If the future owners do not plan on using the property as a trout farm, a request to rescind the permit
can be made after flow through the raceways and out the effluent pipe has ceased.
