The Town of Bladenboro received a Notice of Violation & Intent to Access Civil Penalty on June 6th,
2016. This notice was for a monthly average that exceeded the maximum discharge that our permit
allowed.
Excessive rain fall and an ageing collections system made it difficult for our waste water plant to stay
within compliance. We received 8.1 inches of rain in February. The high rainfall levels increased the
inflow and infiltration, which contributed to the violation.
The impact inflow and infiltration is having on our wastewater plan has resulted in several violations in
the last year. Due to this the town has applied for an Asset Management Planning Grant. This is the first
step needed to address an ageing collections system. We are also planning to have NCRWA do TV and
smoke testing of the water system.
