YMCA Camp Kanata SSO Incident - 202101607
Start time: City of Raleigh (CoR) reported this began at 19:00 on 21 July 2021
Stop time: 04:00 on 22 July 2021
Sewer Permit Number: WQCSD0692
Specific Location of incident: Kearney Road between Cobble Glen Court and Biscay Lane
Cause of incident: Pipe blew out at a bell point
Steps to correct (all were completed before the above listed Stop time):
1. Vaughan Grading & Utilities (VGU) excavated the area to expose ruptured pipe
2. CoR vacuumed waste material away and reintroduced it into their collection system
3. VGU replaced the failed section of pipe with new pipe
4. New soil was placed down with lime and a topping of straw
Estimated total volume: 10,000 gallons
Amount of contaminant that reached surface water: CoR estimates based on visual
assessment that potentially 100 gallons could have reached the drainage ditch that leads to
Horse Creek
Did the SSO result in a fish kill: There have been no know fish deaths related to this incident
