Mr. Herndon,
Included in this package are our recommendations for reinforcing and stabilizing the
exposed sewer line in Carrs Creek, upstream of permit site 2 (YRPC line) on the
R-24170 project in Sanford.
On January 20, 2011 you, 1, and Ronnie Smith had visited the site.
At that time both you and Mr. Smith had concluded that the use of the large stones that
had been placed above grade in the stream bed was not a viable long term solution to
stabilize the sewer line. After his consultations with you and Barry Harrington, Mr.
Tillman, the District Engineer, has designed a more suitable permanent repair which
includes the following:
1. Installation of a rock vane on the down stream side on the sewer line for reinforcement.
2. Rock will be keyed into both the stream bed and the stream bank.
3. Rock will be installed flush with the top of the sewer pipe.
4. Work will be done in the dry using a dike to dewater.
5. The stream banks will be matted and seeded after installation.
This is a gravity sewer system. The plans showed an 8" line but in fact it is a 12" line.
Please look over the enclosed photos and the plan drawing for you approval. It is our
understanding that this work can be done under the existing permit approved for project
R-24170, since this problem was exacerbated by the culvert construction at the site.
