I called the City of Rockingham on Friday July 27 and talked with Larry Cobler. The industry Uco
contracted with a company Safety Clean and they came in with a vac truck and cleaned the oil from the
surface of the areas where it was noted in the plant. Mr. Cobler was satisfied with the cleanup. The oil
was not noted in the aeration basin or final clarifiers at all. It appeared to be basically in the primary
clarifiers. The oil did not appear to have affected his bugs at all. Mr. Cobler had not decided what
action he was going to take against the facility. A report will follow from the ORC.

a local textile facility had discharged
#6 fuel oil into the collection system and treatment works during the
night 7/24/01.
Oil was observed on the primary clarifiers, trickle filter, secondary
clarifiers
non observed in the aeration of final clarifiers or effluent.
Cleanup contractor had been called and he did not think the oil would
make it to surface waters
He was instructed to call back if things got worse or if a sheen was
observed in the chlorine contact basin or if he thought
the oil would make it to surface waters
Belinda please call the Town and to get a update and forward an E-mail
to everyone.
Please ask Larry to give us a report on this event.

facility
