Subject: High Ridge Road PCN
Alan and Doug,
Thank you for taking the time to meet with me and Bob Wilson at High Ridge Road on Tuesday. This was the first project
we visited that day with the undersized culverts and incised downstream channel between the two County owned
wetlands. We plan to redesign with the input you provided and do not anticipate needing a waiver for aquatic life
passage anymore. Thank you for your guidance. I have copied Casey and Todd for their information about this PCN too.
NC DWR project #202111085, USACE Action ID SAW-2021-01475
I'd like to ensure Bob and I captured your input accurately. Would you mind reviewing below summary and the attached
plan sheet with Bob Wilson's notes and letting me know if you have any comments or additional thoughts?
• Bury the culvert 1'.
• Weir with sills at inlet to create a "notch" to make the upstream channel width.
• Add 6" steps to soften the 2' drop at the inlet end.
• Add sills at each end of the culvert to maintain width of the stream. The sills will create 2' to 2.5' to match the
upstream stream width.
• The drop from the outlet pool looks greater than shown on plans. He'd like to see more grade control at the
end. Said it may take two drops. Max 6". We can address by adding 2 more boulder sills.
I hope to send a summary of input we heard for our Baxter Street meeting, the project we visited after High Ridge, early
next week.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you and have a great weekend everyone.
