Section D: Summary of Finding/Comments (Attach additional sheets of narrative and checklists as necessary)
On 8/3/2021, Tricia Lowery met with homeowner Judy Price to perform CEI inspection of a SFR at 258
Center Meeting House Rd, Stoneville, NC. Judy Price assisted and escorted inspector during the
on -site inspection.
The system consists of: septic tank, sand filter, chlorination/disinfection apparatus and outfall to
small creek in backyard of home. The system is 20+ years old. Mr. and Mrs. Price moved into home
November 2020. The septic tank has been pumped sinced they have moved in. The septic haul
company (Gann Brothers Septic Tank Service in Mayodan) will return one year after pumping to
check level and then set schedule of how often to pump the tank. There are only 2 people dwelling in
the home, therefore a low flow is expected. Did not access sand filters and chlorination tubes are in
great shape. The homeowners keeps the chlorination tubes covered at all times to prevent damage.
The outfall could not be visualized due to overgrowth and steep embankment. Due to low flow from
home, it is probable the sand filters and outfall are not utilized in treatment process as the septic tank
is checked and maintained on an annual basis. I gave a copy of the permit to Mrs. Price. The
records she had on hand indicated she has saved several correspondence from DWR that was
passed down from previous owners. Manuals from manufacturer of the treatment system was also
present and given to inspector to review. No laboratory analysis have been conducted (as they have
only been in home 7 months).
Concern(s) noted during the inspection is/are outlined below:
1. When they were instructed on using chlorine tablets for disinfection, the person instructing Mrs.
Price did not state there was a specific tablet to use, therefore, they have been using pool chlorine
tablets (Tri-chlor). I instructed them NOT to use the pool chlorine tablets. I emailed them our
handout for proper chlorination products to use and sent links for where to purchase. I emphasized
proper chlorine tablets are composed of 'calcium hypochlorite'.
2. Overgrowth and cover of outfall pipe. Could not find the outfall.
Overall, the system is in good condition and properly maintained with regular septic maintanance
services.
