THIS PROPERTY IS BOARDERED BY THE PACOLET RIVER. IN MAY
2018 THERE WAS A SIGNIFICANT FLOOD WHICH CAUSED MAJOR
ERROSION ON THE RIVER BANK. THE RIVER BANK WAS
ERRODED BECAUSE THE PROPERTY INVOLVED RECEIVED SOIL
FROM THE CONSTRUCTION SITE OF 1-26 WHEN BEING BUILT IN
THE 1970'S. THE SOIL RAISED THE PROPERTY OUT OF THE
FLOOD PLAN. BUT THE SOIL DOES NOT COMPACT WELL AND IS
EASILY ERRODED WITHOUT SIGNIFICANT PROTECTION,
THE CHURCH OWNERS WOULD LIKE TO ADD LARGE BOULDERS
TO REALIGN THE RIVER CHANNEL AND RECLAIM A SIGNIFICANT
RIVER BANK AREA THAT RAS BEEN WASHED AWAY. THE
PROJECT WOULD NOT ALTER THE COURSE OF THE CHANNEL.
BUT WOULD CONFINE IT TO IT'S ORIGINAL LOCATION. SIMILAR
ROCK WORK HAS BEEN DONE IN OTHER LOCATIONS OF THE
RIVER NEAR BY AND HAS WORKED EFFECTIVELY IN THE RIVER
MAINTAINING ITS COURSE.
IN ITS PRESENT STATUS, THE RIVER BANK ADJOINS A PLAYFIELD
FOR ELEMENTARY STUDENTS AND IS A DANGER AND HAZARD
FOR THEIR PLAY GROUND. IN THE BEST INTEREST OF SAFETY,
THIS ERROSION ISSUE NEEDS TO BE FIXED.
