Re: New Garden Road Sidewalk Gap Project - Greensboro, NC
Dear Karen Higgins:
The City of Greensboro would like to notify your office of the proposed sidewalk project at 2100 New
Garden Road, NW of Greensboro, NC 27410. The project's objective is to connect the existing
sidewalk gap (picture attached) by constructing a 270 feet long, 4.5' —6.0' wide concrete sidewalk
with a 12-inch grass strip to the of curb to accommodate the safety guard rail.
Presently, New Garden Road is a five lane road with sidewalk on both sides. The south side sidewalk
has a gap of about 270 feet that prevents continuity to pedestrians and runners, and this is a safety
concern. Constructing a new sidewalk to connect this gap will improve safety. At this location, there is
an existing triple 72-inch culvert underneath that daylight about 404 feet downstream.
The City of Greensboro staff reviewed the location for other options but the development around the
sidewalk gap is not favorable in re-routing the proposed sidewalk. Therefore, there is no practical
alternative than the construction of the sidewalk to connect the gap at this location.
The City of Greensboro hereby request the proposed riparian buffer authorization form be considered
for approval as an existing transportation facilities sidewalk improvement.
Attached is the Riparian Buffet Authorization (RBA) application, construction drawing, vicinity map,
USGS topography map, and site layout drawings with the drainage layout map for your review.
Site: 2100 New Garden Road, Greensboro, NC 27410.
Site Condition: Existing sidewalk gap is above a triple culvert with a wing wall.
If you have any further questions, please call me at (336) 373-7821
