2. CONTRACTOR SHALL CALL NCDENR AT (919) 791 -4200 PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION BEGINNING.
3. PERFORM SELF - INSPECTIONS AND KEEP RECORDS AS REQUIRED BY NCDENR SELF INSPECTION PROGRAM.

PHASE 1 - INSTALLATION OF DEVICES
4. STAKE CONSTRUCTION LIMITS ON PROPERTY.
5. CLEAR FOR EROSION CONTROL DEVICES. DISTURB ONLY WHAT IS NECESSARY FOR CONSTRUCTING
EROSION CONTROL DEVICES.
6. INSTALL CONSTRUCTION ENTRANCE.
7. INSTALL SKIMMER BASIN #1- #3, AND TEMPORARY DIVERSIONS #1 & #2. INSTALL LINERS AND SEED BASINS
AND DIVERSIONS.
8. RE -GRADE THE RIGHT ROADSIDE DITCH BETWEEN :STATION 3 +50 AND CULVERT 1. INSTALL LINER
IMMEDIATELY.
9. INSTALL SILT FENCING IN THE AREAS SHOWN ON THE PLAN.
10. RE -GRADE ALL REMAINING DITCHES AS NEEDED AND INSTALL LINERS IMMEDIATELY.
11. PERFORM A SELF INSPECTION. IF ACCEPTABLE, PROCEED TO PHASE 2.
PHASE 2 - ROUGH GRADING
12. BEGIN ROUGH GRADING THE SITE.
13. REPLACE CULVERTS AS SHOWN ON THE PLANS.
14. REMOVE ACCUMULATED SEDIMENT FROM THE STREAM AND WETLAND AREAS WITH SHOVELS AND BUCKETS
TO NATIVE SOILS AND DISCARD THE SEDIMENT INTO ONE OF THE SKIMMER BASINS.
15. MAINTAIN EROSION CONTROL FEATURES AS NEEDED. SEE SHEET C -6 FOR STABILIZATION TIMEFRAMES. ANY
TRENCHES MUST BE BACKFILLED DAILY.
16. THE CONTRACTOR SHOULD MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO KEEP SEDIMENT AND /OR MUD OFF OF THE ADJACENT
ROADWAYS. REMOVE ANY MATERIAL FROM THE ASPHALT IMMEDIATELY.
13. PERFORM A SELF INSPECTION. IF ACCEPTABLE, PROCEED TO PHASE 3.
PHASE 3 - FINAL GRADING AND PAVING
14. CONTINUE GRADING THE SITE.
15. ONCE FINISHED GRADE IS ESTABLISHED, PROVISIONS FOR PERMANENT GROUND COVER MUST BE
ACCOMPLISHED WITHIN THE STABILIZATION TIMEFRAME SHOWN ON SHEET C-6.
16. PERFORM A SELF INSPECTION. IF ACCEPTABLE, PROCEED TO PHASE 4.
PHASE 4 - FINAL STABILIZATION / REMOVAL OF DEVICES
17. MAINTAIN EROSION CONTROL DEVICES WHILE VEGETATION IS BEING ESTABLISHED.
18. AFTER THE ENTIRE SITE IS COMPLETELY STABILIZED, PERFORM A SELF INSPECTION. IF ACCEPTABLE,
REMOVE ALL TEMPORARY EROSION CONTROL DE\10ES AND COMPLETE ANY NECESSARY GRADING IN THE
LOCATIONS OF THE REMOVED DEVICES. PROVIDEi ?ERMANENT GROUNDCOVER FOR ANY RESULTING
DENUDED AREAS.

PERMANENT SEEDING
PROVIDE PERMANENT SEEDING TO ALL DENUDED AREAS THAT WILL NOT BE COVERED BY PAVING, BUILDINGS, OR OTHER LANDSCAPING
WITHIN THE TIMEFRAME SPECIFIED ON THE STABILIZATION TIMEFRAME TABLE.
COMPLETE GRADING BEFORE PREPARING SEEDBEDS. IF SOILS BECOME COMPACTED DURING GRADING, LOOSEN THEM TO A DEPTH OF 6-8
INCHES.
SEEDBED REQUIREMENTS:
THE SOIL SHOULD MEET THE FOLLOWING MINIMUM CRITERIA FOR VE=GETATION ESTABLISHMENT:
• ENOUGH FINE - GRAINED (SILT AND CLAY) MATERIAL TO MAINTAIN ADEQUATE MOISTURE AND NUTRIENT SUPPLY (AVAILABLE WATER
CAPACITY OF AT LEAST 0.05 INCHES OF WATER TO 1 INCH OF SOIL
• SUFFICIENT PORE SPACE TO PERMIT ROOT PENETRATION.
• SUFFICIENT DEPTH OF SOIL TO PROVIDE AN ADEQUATE ROOT ZONE. THE DEPTH OF ROCK OR IMPERMEABLE LAYERS SUCH AS
HARDPANS SHOULD BE 12 INCHES OR MORE, EXCEPT ON SLOPES STEEPER THAN 2 :1 WHERE THE ADDITION OF SOIL IS NOT
FEASIBLE.
• A FAVORABLE PH RANGE FOR PLANT GROWTH, USUALLY 6.0.6.5.
• NO LARGE ROOTS, BRANCHES, STONES, LARGE CLODS OF EARTH, AND TRASH. CLODS AND STONES MAY BE LEFT ON SLOPES
STEEPER THAN 3:1 IF THEY ARE TO BE HYDROSEEDED.
IF THE ABOVE CRITERIA CANNOT BE MET, SPECIAL SOIL CONDITIONERS OR TOPSOIL MAY BE APPLIED.
SEEDBED PREPARATION:
LIME: APPLY LIME ACCORDING TO SOIL TEST RECOMMENDATIONS. IF THE SOIL PH IS NOT KNOWN, FOLLOW RATES ON THE SEEDING
SPEC TABLE.
FERTILIZER: FERTILIZE ACCORDING TO SOIL TEST RECOMMENDATIONS. WHERE SOIL TESTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE, FOLLOW RATES ON
THE SEEDING SPEC TABLE.
SURFACE ROUGHENING: IF AREAS TO BE SEEDED BECOME HARDENED, SEALED, OR CRUSTED, LOOSEN IT JUST PRIOR TO SEEDING BY
DISKING, RAKING, HARROWING OR OTHER SUITABLE METHODS. GROOVE OR FURROW SLOPES STEEPER THAN 3:1 ON THE CONTOUR
BEFORE SEEDING.
PLANT SELECTION:
SELECT THE APPROPRIATE SPECIES BASED ON THE PLANTING SEASCA, SOIL TYPE, SLOPES, AND LAND USES. SEE SEEDING SPEC
TABLES IN PLANS FOR RECOMMENDED PERMANENT SEEDING MIXTURE.
SEEDING:
USE CERTIFIED SEED (INSPECTED BY THE NORTH CAROLINA CROP IMPROVEMENT ASSOCIATION).
