Our new permit that goes into effect on March 1, 2001 has had a quarterly effluent
monitoring for total mercury and a semi-annual monitoring of sludge has been added
also. Your cover letter indicated that these were added due to insufficient or no data to
determine if this facility is a source of mercury for the Lumber River Basin. I would like
to submit data of mercury levels in our sludge that have been analyzed over the past five
(5) years.
Mercury Data
2.94 mg,'kg 10/ 11 /95
1.23 mg/kg 01/05/96
0.83 mg/kg 01/05/96
0.87 mg/kg 11/14/96
0.17 !ng/ka 04/24/97
2.96 mg/kg 05/13/97
2.66 mg/kg 05/04/98
3.19 mg/kg 11/06/98
3.32 mg/kg 04/07/99
2.67 mg/kg 11/01/99
The total mercury for the ten (10) samples is 20.84 mg/kg and the average is 2.08 mg/kg
Upon viewing this data, would you please let us know if it is sufficient enough to drop
the mercury monitoring from our permit? If you have any questions please contact Robert
Ellis at (910) 277-0214.
