Removal Guidelines.pdf
Ryan,
Per the telephone message I left you earlier today, Site 13 on project U-3109 received
sediment in the stream immediately adjacent to a sediment basin. The affected area is an
approximately 50 sq. ft area with deposits of up to approximately 6-7 inches in depth (see
attached photos). I have instructed the contractors to remove the sediment using the
attached guidelines. The site received over 1.6 inches of rain which resulted in overtopping of
the sediment fence which allowed the sediment to enter the stream. The silt fence and other
devices actually withstood the rain event without failing but due to the large amount of
rainfall over a short period, the devices were overtopped particularly by fine silt. Most of the
silt settled at the opening of the nearby culvert where it was slowed by the presence of a
wattle.(see pictures). The outlet end of the culvert eventually empties into the pond that we
discussed in an earlier email. However, a turbidity curtain seems to have drastically reduced
the amount of sediment that may have reached the pond (see pictures). I have ordered the
contractors to de-water the area and begin removing sediment immediately so as to lessen
any impacts to the pond. If you have any questions or would like to add additional comments
or directives, please let us know.
