Aqua North Carolina, Inc. (Aqua) offers the following response to the above -referenced Compliance
Evaluation Inspection performed on September 18, 2012.
"It is-recommended_that. Aqua: consider. the installation=of a grit removal' unit as: soon as possible"
Response:
In 2013,-Aqua plans to rework the splitter box and install a new bar screen. We believe
this will increase the removal of smaller material that may be currently passing through
and also improve the overall treatment processes in the WWTP.
• "It is recommended that Aqua, if not already doing so, investigate sources of I/I."
Response:
Aqua has performed previous investigations and has performed work over the years to
prevent I/I. This work has included improvements made at Lift Station #2 and #3. In
2013, Aqua will continue to investigate potential sources of I/I which will include broken
service laterals, unprotected manholes, and other potential sources.
• "It is strongly recommended that the smaller side of the facility be cleaned and rehabilitated to
offer operational flexibility."
Response:
Aqua will clean and rehabilitate the smaller side of the WWTP beginning in early 2013.
"Aeration.; basin color:was -unusual, : rust color.:Mr: Baldwin..indicated;that:it was:normalfor:the

Response:
Aqua is uncertain of the reason for the "unusual rust color." However, if we can make
this determination, we will advise you.
• "Aqua should include in the Plan frequency of checking solids level in this unit and when the unit
should be cleaned. THE LOSS OF SOLIDS SHOULD BE MONITORED OFTEN."
Response:
Aqua is in the process of developing a written standard operating procedure (SOP)
specific to process control sampling at Woodlake, which should be fully implemented by
the end of 2012.
• "It is recommended that filter guards/housing be bolted down at all times."
Response:
Aqua has welded an extension to the stem for the blower guards and has secured the filter
guard housings.
