Laurie,
Roberto Scheller and Lyn Hardison were helping us with the permit. Truth be told, now that you mention it, I remember
them saying in one of our initial meetings that the permit fee was based on wetland impacts.
The way this happened is that as we were working through the permit we held a scoping meeting, they reviewed our
initial version of the plan and PCN which showed two acres of wetland disturbance. However once we did our field
investigations with Army Corps of Engineers we found less existing wetlands on site, so the wetland disturbance area
decreased to just under an acre.
Glad we got it figured out.
Thanks for sending the check back allowing us to reissue it!
Best,
Erin

I will get a letter & the check out tomorrow. Yes, since the project is only actually impacting 0.72 acres of wetlands —
you are eligible for the lower $240 fee. Just curious, who did you talk to that said to pay the higher fee?
Thanks, Erin.

Thank you Laurie.
We were told that due to the size of the project (1,530 acres to be restored) it would require the major permit fee. But if
it's based on the impacts to existing wetlands (0.72 acres) that's great news. The check can be returned to our HQ office
(Newport address as shown on the check) and they can reissue you the check in the appropriate amount of $240.
Many Thanks,
Erin

Importance: High
DWQ received the above project today along with a check in the amount of $570. A quick review of the PCN reflects
only 0.72 acres of wetland impact and if that's the only impact then the permitting fee would be $240.
Would one or both of you confirm the impacts for me?
Erin, the check is from NC Coastal Federation — the address on the check is Newport NC & your address shows as
Manteo — if the check is to be returned — which address should it be referred to?
Thanks to both of you.
Laurie
