Re: UT to Bull Run (Site ##14 & #22) Stream Relocation Sites, Lee County, State Project No.

Mr. Spencer:
As you are aware, the Department has monitored the UT to Bull Run Stream Relocation Sites
since their construction in May of 2003 (Site #14) and April of 2004 (Site #22). Located in Lee
County, adjacent to the US 421/NC 87 Sanford bypass, these sites provide 144 linear feet of
stream relocation for impacts associated with the R2417BA project. The stream relocations
were constructed and revegetated with bottomland hardwood species. Per permit requirements,
NCDOT was required to quarterly monitor the relocated sites for channel stability by visual
observation for two years or until success criteria were met. During the monitoring period,
quarterly monitoring reports were submitted to the appropriate regulatory agencies via the PDEA
Natural Environment Unit's (NEU) website:
htt : /Av,ww.rrcdot.or, ldoh/ reconstruct/ elneulMonitorin /Monitor °in Re or-ts.html
After two years of quarterly vegetation and stream stability monitoring, the UT to Bull Run
Stream Relocation Sites indicate that the planted vegetation is surviving and the streambanks
remain stable at this time. Individual quarterly monitoring data is available on NEU's website
for 20062008.
