Mr. Linton,

Dr. Colleen Hudak -Wise
Director
On July 7, 2021, I visited your swine operation, facility #71-102, in order to assess the growth stage of the corn planted on
your spray fields. The stage of growth of the corn determines whether or not the waste application window on these spray
fields can be extended. This assessment is being conducted at your request because of the delayed growth and maturity of
the corn due to an extended dry period from crop emergence in April until the first week in June.
After walking your spray fields, 1 have determined that the corn growth stage is R-1.5, between silking and blister stages.
From the current stage of growth until R-4.5, between dough stage and dent stage, the corn will benefit from additional
nutrients as seed and ears develop. I have included as an attachment a corn growth stage and nitrogen uptake curve
illustrating the justification for additional nutrient application. Therefore, I recommend that the waste application window
be extended until August 4, 2021.
**This recommendation is for this crop and weather situation only, and applications of effluent should not exceed the
amount of PAN allowed in the facility's waste plan.**
Please retain this letter for your records.
If I can be of further assistance, please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
htai
Willie Howell
