REGAN Secretary LINDA CULPEPPER lMtertm Director Michael Colson and Gail Dickinson 120 Dogwood Drive Camden, North Carolina 27921 NORTH CAROLINA Environmental Quality September 11, 2018 SUBJECT: Groundwater Sampling Results UIC Permit No. WI0700473 Issued to Michael Colson and Gail Dickinson Camden, Camden County, North Carolina Dear Mr. Colson and Ms. Dickinson: .ECEIVEDINCDEQID' SEP 13 2013 Water Quality Regional Operations Section Staff from the Washington Regional Office of the Water Quality Regional Operations Section collected samples of the influent (supply well) and effluent (injection well) from your geothermal heat pump system on July 31, 2018. The samples were analyzed for metals, nutrients; anti other inorganic constituents by the Division of Water Resources laboratory. A summary table of the analytical results, as well as the laboratory reports, field sampling forms, and defmitions of laboratory data qualifiers are attached to this letter. The following two constituents were detected above state groundwater standards in both samples from your system: Parameter Units NC Groundwater Standard Results Total Coliform Colony Forming Units per 100 milliliters (CFU/100m1) 1 6 (supply well -influent) 18 (injection welt -effluent) pH Standard Units (s.u.) 6.5 to 8.5 6 (supply well -influent) 6 (injection well -effluent) These exceedances should not affect the use of the wells for your geothermal heat pump system; however, it is recommended before using the water from these wells for personal consumption that you consult with Albemarle Regional Health Services (local health agency). 1:1717:M North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (Division of Water Resources - Washington Regional Office 943 Washington Square Mall, Washington, North Carolina 27889 Michael Colson and Gail Dickinson September 11, 2018 . Page 2 of 2 In addition, the following constituent exhibited an increase in concentration between the influent (supply well) and effluent (injection well): Parameter Units NC Groundwater Standard Results Copper ug/L 1000 19 (supply well -influent) 93 (injection well -effluent) While these concentrations of copper are still below state groundwater standards, these results may indicate that your geothermal heat pump system is having an effect on the groundwater flowing through the system. This information being provided to help you operate the system in the future. If you have any questions regarding the sampling results or your permit, please feel. free to contact me at (252) 948-3849.
