PCS PHOSPHATE - TANK FARM REMEDIAL ACTION PLAN
QUARTERLY OPERATIONAL AND MAINTENANCE REPORT FOR
THE INJECTION AND WITHDRAWAL WATER WELLS
MAY, 1998 - JULY, 1998
The Tank Farm Remediation System consists of a series of seven
injection water wells located on the south side of the Tank
Farm Area and a series of fourteen (14) water withdrawal wells
located on the north side of the Tank Farm Area.
Injection Water Well System
The injection water well system operated with the DPW Water -
Anthracite-- Sand Filter / 'Ultraviolet Light CASF/UV)
disinfection system throughout the period. Short periods of
planned downtime were experienced for preventative maintenance
and inlet DPW Water strainer cleaning. There was one
instrumentation problem, which occurred on July 15th and was
corrected on the 16th. This was on the DPW Water flow recorder
and totalizer, which were recording higher than normal flow.
The I&E Maintenance Department reset the program parameters and
the recorder began functioning properly. The totalizer reading
for these two days was estimated at the average flow rate for
the rest of the days of the month.
Daily operational data-are-col-l-ected-by-the-Shipping-Department
and reported to the Operations Environmental Department. The
total monthly and quarterly volumes of water injected as well
as the month end water level in the Water Level Control Tank

Some additional short periods of planned downtime for
preventative maintenance, pipe header cleaning, and
troubleshooting on individual pumps in the fourteen well system
were experienced. Details of these activities are:
Confined Sand Formation Withdrawal Wells (SWW)
SWW-1; On 5/28 the pump rate was reduced due to scaling and it
was cleaned with HC1. On 6/16 a leaking air line was repaired.
On 7/7 the pump cycle counter malfunctioned and was replaced.
SWW-2; On 5/5 the pump malfunctioned. The seat was cleaned on
the pump air control valve and the pump was placed back in
