In accordance with Part VII, Section B of the "Special Conditions" section of expired NPDES Permit No. NC0083887, Charlotte -
Douglas International Airport (CLT) is providing information summarizing the amount of glycol and urea dispensed on the
property during the winter season spanning from October 2020 through April 2021. The Outfall 001 Discharge Monitoring
Report (DMR) for May 2021 is additionally included.
The total amount of aircraft de-icing fluid (ADF) used was reported to be 13,637 gallons prior to dilution. Of this amount,
almost all was sprayed by our service provider, International Deicing Services, Inc. (IDS). Their services are administered on
behalf of CLT to all regularly scheduled carriers providing flights to and from CLT, as well as UPS Cargo. For General Aviation,
which includes private and corporate flights handled by Wilson Air Center, the amount of ADF used totals 214 gallons prior to
dilution.
No urea was dispensed at CLT during the 2020-2021 winter season. The Airport no longer purchases urea for deicing or anti -
icing activities and now uses sodium formate as our primary solid deicer to minimize our environmental impact.
The quantities presented for the 2020-2021 winter season represent a decrease when compared with what was reported to
your agency for the 2019-2020 winter season. This reduction is attributed to a significant decrease in the number of flights due
to the COVID 19 pandemic, warmer temperatures, and a reduced volume of frozen precipitation when compared to the 2019-
2020 winter season.
