The DO and temperature monitoring equipment below the dam depends on the 120 V AC service in the tailwater area to collect the water quality data and transmit it to the plant computer on top of the intake tower. So the loss of electric power prevents the Project from collecting that data continuously (every 30 minutes) for the present. The Corps advised us on April 30 that they had requested the Central Electric Membership Cooperative restore the power to the tailwater area while the construction is in progress. The Corps does not have a firm date for CEMC to restore power, but they expect it to happen within a few days. While the power is out of service, we are having our operators make a few grab samples of DO and temperature each day. We are not concerned that state standards might be violated, because the water discharged by the dam is in the 60 degree F range. Samples that we have taken since May 1 show the DO to be above 8.5 mg /I. So we believe that our plan is a reasonable way to be certain that state water quality standards are met while the power is out, which hopefully will be a brief period.
