I live at the corner of NC Hwy. 33 and Tripp Road. The mine will be essentially behind my house. I have lived in this area for over 70 years. I am concerned with the amount of water being discharged in the small water of the creek, the impact on flooding adjacent lands, the loss of my well, and the overall impact on the creek. The portion of Blounts Creek that borders my family farm lies between the NC Hwy. 33 bridge and the Tripp Road bridge. In recent years this area has been dammed by beavers and the water has backed onto the property. The water at the Tripp Road bridge is more swollen than in the past. I am concerned the millions of gallons of water every day will add to this swollen water. The creek will come further onto our property, killing trees and perhaps threatening our CREP enrollment. The water may even spread out of its banks more at the Tripp Road bridge, causing it to be impassable during large storm events. If the water level rises because of this discharge, will Martin Marietta help remedy the problem, or am I going to lose more of my dry land? Will Tripp Road be flooded at times? A couple of years ago survey marks were placed in this area. Was that part of the Martin Marietta project? I understand flooding may not be a great concern farther down the creek, but I am not farther down the creek. I am in the area that will be impacted with the increased water volume. Another concern I have is the loss of my well. I am within the area that will feel the impact from the water withdrawal. Will Martin Marietta drill a new well for me when my old well runs dry because of their pumping? Lastly I would just like to mention a concern for the fish in the creek. Blounts Creek has puppy drum, speckled trout, rock, raccoon perch, pike, and all sorts of fish. Herring once ran behind our farm. I am afraid these millions of gallons may further hurt the fish in this creek. There must be another way for Martin Marietta to rid themselves of their waste water other than discharging into Blounts Creek. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, 0- Jesse A. Tripp P. O.
