We would also urge that the old iron ductile pipe be removed from the lagoon ASAP. We had found in the past that even plugged there are times we have seen the pipes leak. Please continue to update us and we look forward to a Plan of Action for the repairs. If we can be of further assistance feel free to let us know. Belinda From: joseph shields [mailto:troywwtp650@yahoo.com] Sent: Friday, August 02, 2013 10:55 AM To: Henson, Belinda Subject: Lagoon leak DWQ Fayetteville Region Belinda I-Ienson On Monday 7/29/2013 a leak in the Lagoon Containment Structure (LCS) was discovered. DWQ Fayetteville was notified. By permission DWQ pumps were put in place and a draw down of the lagoon was begun. The lagoon water was pumped to the CCB and the water was treated with CL2 and declor. A meeting was held with the Town Manager, Director of Public works, and the POTW Director. It was agreed • that the town's engineer needed to be consulted. The engineer inspected the LCS that afternoon. A technician for GEO TEC drilled several hand bores to examine soils in the LCS. Fabric was obtained and placed over the stream side of the LCS rip -rap was placed over the fabric. This was done to hold the soil in place it had little or no effect on the flow from the lagoon. The fabric and rip -rap covered an area approximately 20' x 15'. A flow test was conducted on the leak q = v x a, the flow was calculated to be 110 GPM. The following day GEO TEC was on site with drilling rig to further examine the soil of the LCS. On Thursday AM an old ductile iron pipe was revealed. A plug was inserted in the pipe and the leak stopped. A hole in the LCS was discovered in the vicinity of the pipe. The hole is 4" to 5 " in dia. and looks to extend at least 18 to 24 inches. The hole and as well as the pipe maybe source of the leak. There will be a meeting this PM Friday 8/2/13 to discuss further steps to effect repairs. Will advise on outcome. 1 The lagoon continues to be drawn down. It is difficult to determine with certainty how much of the drawn down went to Densons Creek and how much of the that went to POTW. The flow back to POTW was maximum possible and varied with influent flow. Just over 3,258,288 gals has been removed as of Friday AM. J Shields Director Troy POTW 2
