I appreciate your taking the time to speak with me regarding the fecal coliform benchmark
exceedances at the Perdue Concord facility. I especially valued your insights since you had
spent time with the previous Regional Environmental Manager on these same issues. I agree
with you that wildlife is the most likely cause of our fecal exceedances therefore request Tier
Relief for our stormwater outfalls.
Perdue Concord has taken additional steps over the last year to try and mitigate these
exceedances. The Pollution Prevention Team has increased the frequency of its Stormwater
Pollution Prevention Plan inspections from a semi-annual to monthly basis. The Perdue team
also identified areas of roof drainage where we felt A was necessary to install C1eanWay
filtration systems to better protect the stormwater conveyance. Three of those systems are
now installed onsite. The stormwater outfall was also moved to incorporate the natural
wetland area before reaching the creek, but that may have increased the animal activity and
negatively impacted the fecal coliform results. Lastly, the Perdue facility is in the process of
starting quarterly property sweeping starting in January 2021.
We thank you in advance for granting us Tier Relief. We look forward to your response to allow
for reduced monitoring.
