The facility manufactures optical waveguide fibers. A proprietary halide raw material is burned in a natural gas flame
to form Silica Dioxide. The silica dioxide is dried and drawn into hair thin optical fiber. The fiber is coated with an
acrylate coating, wound on spools and sold.

There are not wastewater treatment system components installed at the Corning Incorporated - Wilmington facility
which are used to treat wastewater associated with the discharges permitted under this permit NC0003794. All
discharges associated with the outfalls permitted in this permit consist of non -contact, non -process discharges which do
not require treatment. All process wastewaters are discharged from the facility via a treatment system to the Cape Fear
Public Utility Authority.
Sampling shall be conducted according to sufficiently sensitive test procedures (i.e., methods) approved under 40 CFR 136 for the analysis of pollutants or pollutant
parameters or required under 40 CFR chapter I, subchapter N or 0. See instructions and 40 CFR 122.21(e)(3).
