Interesting that, even though the permit limit for turbidity is 50 NTU, that it would have to exceed 52 before being flagged as a violation because within that range, values are rounded to the nearest five units. Have another lovely day. Buster 8 April 2013 Chuck Wakild NCDENR- DWQ -NPDES 1617 Mail Service Center Raleigh, NC 27699 -1617 Mr. Wakild® Buster Thompson P.O. Box 54 Blounts Creek, NC 27814 -0054 (252) 322 -5423 bustert@gotricounty.com Blounts Creek is a black water stream with water stained by tannins that absorb light. I know from observation that during much of a typical year, suspended solids are undetectable or nearly so and certainly much less than the Proposed limit of 50 NTU. A powerful dive light often does not create visible backscatter or Tyndall effect. Turbidity of the discharge should not be allowed to change the turbidity of receiving waters. Will an increase of less dense fresh water overlying more saline water increase the number and severity of kills of fish and other aquatic and marine species by becoming warm in summer months and preventing gas exchange between the atmosphere and water at lower strata? Buster Thompson I suspect that other unintended and unpredicted impacts and ripple effects will result from this discharge. The North Carolina Division of Water Quality should not approve Martin Marietta's requested permit. Regards Buster Thompson P.O. Box 54 2
