In the years 1990 and x991, I purchased land, built a home and relocated to property along
Blounts Creek. I was attracted'to this area because of the pristine nature of Blounts Creels and
surrounding area. The discharge of millions of gallons of wastewater into the headwaters of
Blounts will undoubtedly have a negative impact on the chemical, physical and biological
characteristics of the creels.
Blounts Creek is.a black water stream with water stained by tannips that absorb light. I know
from observation that during much of a typical year, suspended solids are undetectable or
nearly so and certainly much less than the Proposed limit of go NTU. A powerful dive light
often does not create visible backscatter or Tyndall effect. Turbidity of the discharge should not
be allowed to change the turbidity of receiving waters.
Will an increase of less dense fresh water overlying more saline water increase the number and
severity of kills of fish and other aquatic and marine species by becoming warm in summer
months and preventing gas exchange between the atmosphere and water at lower strata?

I suspect that other unintended and unpredicted impacts and ripple effects will result from this
discharge.
The North'Caroliria Division of Water Quality should not approve Martin Marietta's requested
permit.
