Section D: Summary of Finding/Comments (Attach additional sheets of narrative and checklists as necessary)
On 05/11/2021 Paul Mays with the Division of Water Resources from the Washington Regional Office
conducted a compliance evaluation of New Bern WWTP. The facility was found to be compliant with
permit #NC0025348. Below are the findings and observations found during the inspection:
The facility was well kept. All equipment was in good shape and operational.
10/2020 DMR and corresponding lab data was spot checked, and no discrepancies were found. The
2020 annual report was submitted, and the 2019 annual report was on hand. Operation and
maintenance logs were also present and complete. All other required documents were readily
available for review and well maintained. Staff assisted with retrieving data from lab reports to
compare with what was reported on eDMR report.
Influent flowmeter was calibrated on 04/27/2021
Influent sampler is flow proportional and obtains 450m1 samples. The temperature was set to 5
degrees Celsius.
Debris goes to a lined landfill three times a week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
Grit goes to a lined landfill three times a week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
Both clarifiers were in good working condition and effluent leaving them looked good. However, there
were some grease particles present. Clarifier 1 had a 1.5ft sludge blanket and clarifier 2 had a 2.25ft
sludge blanket. This was determined via sludge judge.
The generators are tested weekly, and the facility has a monthly checklist for maintenance. The fuel
tank for the generators were around 70% full.
Tertiary filters 2 backwashes a day at 11am and 3pm respectfully. The high-water alarms for the
tertiary filters were operational and function through SCADA.
Effluent flowmeter was calibrated on 04/27/2021
Effluent sampler is flow proportional and samples are 450m1 per sample. The temperature was set to
5 degrees Celsius.
Sludge press was in good working condition and was operating at the time of inspection.
