The project would make the intersection of US 17 and SR 1518
Old Folkstone Road into a temporary Reduced Conflict Intersection(RCI)and
accordingly provide a U-turn bulb-out and four section Flashing Yellow Arrow for the
US 17 northbound to southbound U-turn at the exsting signalized intersection of US 17
and NC 172.

The need for the project is to provide for better safety and mobility in
the project area.The purpose of the project is to satisfy the need.

For the traffic improvements at the Intersection of US 17 and NC 172 there will be a constructed bulb-out for the drivers in the left turning left of US-17 Northbound to make a complete
U-turn within the EOT lane.Fill will be placed and the bulb-out will be paved and a typical shoulder and fill slopes will be constructed.Typical road construction equipment will be used.
