Hey Byron,
I apologize for not being able to attend field reviews for R-2413A and U-2525B mitigation sites. I have
reviewed your notes, pictures and reports regarding the sites described in emails below. DWR concurs with
DOT and Corps recommendations regarding site close-outs for R-2413A Site 2 upper and U-2525B Site 5; and,
further monitoring at R-2413A Site 2 lower.
Let me know if you need anything further or have questions.

Thanks for the notes and pictures, Byron. It was good to see you, Randy, and Matt out there. The Corps agrees with your
notes.
R-2413A Site #2 lower: the repair work looked good, the site was stable (noting the few very small areas of washouts
under the matting), and the Corps looks forward to reviewing the renewed monitoring early next year.
R-2413A Site #2 upper: flow was present throughout the channel today, during a period of normal rainfall. Based on my
field review and the previous 5 years of monitoring, the Corps is ok with close out.
U-2525B Site 5: signs of very high and flashy flows were present throughout this site, and sediment from overbank flows
has been deposited to a great extent in the floodplain. Even still, the site was stable except for the areas you noted.
Further, the channel did not appear to be over-widened to any significant degree, the structures were all stable, and the
vegetation looks healthy. Based on my field review and the previous 5 years of monitoring, the Corps is ok with close
out.
Thanks again, and please let me know if you have any questions.

Here are some notes from yesterday’s field visit. I will be sending 3 separate emails with pictures for each site. If
either of you have any questions, let me know.
Thanks

R-2413A Site #2 lower
Overall I thought the repair work looked good. There were a couple of very minor local scour areas that we will
continue to monitor. NCDOT will restart the monitoring of this site this year.
R-2413A Site #2 upper
NCDOT is proposing to close this site out. The site is very stable and there was flow in the channel.
U-2525B Site 5
NCDOT is proposing to close this site out. The localized scour area at the end of the boulder toe protection has not
changed significantly over the past 5 years. It actually showed signs of starting to repair itself in one area. The
remainder of the site is highly vegetated and stable.
