This female has lay -ed clam to her last years nest on the no wake sign at the mouth of the Blounts Creek. She and her mate will set there and raise their young and fuss at every boat that goes by, but will never abandon that nest. I caught two big stripers today, but had to release them as they were 23 inches and out of slot. Picture 2 is of David Massengill from Smithfield with a 27.2 inch striper that he caught yesterday. John Sheaves from Knightdale is showing two fish in the picture that I took of him. A nice 19 inch trout and 21 inch striper. I just received a call that another friend had caught a limit of big trout up at the little end of the creek today. I am to get that picture tomorrow for your next report.. Bob Daw NOW, News Flash.. Not only are we sportsmen /women fighting against the mining company killing our creek with their 9,000,000 plus gallons daily of waste water but just click on the icon below to see that people that we voted for are now wanting to raise our boat registration from $40 dollar every three years to a whooping $450 dollars every three years. Have they gone raving mad. At what point do we all turn in our boat paddles and rods and reels and tell they have won and we all relocate to another state. We already have to go to Virgina to catch croakers. The last place that is good to fish <Blounts Creek> will be destroyed and we will not be able to afford boat registration anyway. Is anyone out there.. hello - -hello http:/ /www.northcarolinasportsman.com /printer friendly.php ?id =3273 N Strickland, Bev From: Bob Daw [bwdaw1 @embargmail.com] Sent: Friday, March 22, 2013 12:41 PM To: Stecker, Kathy Subject: Blounts Creek- Martin Marietta discharge permits Attachments: Blounts Creek destroyed. zip_renamed; Blounts Creek destroyed Itr.pdf Hello Kathy, I did send this to Chuck but I certainly wanted you to have a copy. Check out my pictures to. Thanks Bob Daw Attached are comments and supporting pictures in reference to objections of the Martin Marietta draft permits (NPDES & CWA Section 401) for open pit mining in Beaufort County. Thank you for your consideration. 1 36-e •61VIV B7sTl I 226 Crisp Landing Rd. Chocowinity, NC 27817 March 22, 2013 Chuck Wakid Director NCDENR — Division of Water .Quality 1617 Mail Service Center Raleigh, NC 27699 -1617 Dear Mr. Wakid: This purpose of this letter is to support and add to my comments made at the public hearing in Washington, NC on March 14, 2013 regarding the Martin Marietta's requested discharge water permits to run a 649 acre open pit mine in Beaufort County. l am not against the operation of the mine but I am against any discharge of their waters into our pristine brackish Blounts Creek waters when there are other viable options. My Wife and I currently live on Blounts Creek and I have had an intimate love for the creek for over 20 years. I currently write and submit email fishing and wildlife reports with pictures to over 100 + people. Most are fishing friends that I have met over the years from all over Eastern North Carolina. I have many pictures of fish caught in this creek that are typical of brackish and saltwater fish like speckled trout, puppy drum, black drum, flounders, etc. We are not a freshwater creek and it makes my blood boil for "want -to -be experts" to say otherwise. You don't catch speckled trout, blue crabs and puppy drum in Goldsboro or Greenville. Our Neuse & Tar Rivers in these areas are under a lot of stress from agriculture, industry and city sewer treatments. I would pause to eat many fish from these. Blounts Creek is one of the last little bodies of water unspoiled by business pollutions. Experts can generate data to say about what they want. I do not understand much of the data and scientific mumbo jumbo but I do have common sense. You can't dump as much water as Martin Marietta wants to in Blounts Creek and not change it for the worse and forever. I want to spend my aging years at Blounts Creek along with my children, grandchildren and if I am lucky, my great grandchildren, enjoying the variety of fishing and wildlife we have here. My children & grandchildren often say I want to come to the "creek ". I am not a man of much monetary means but I am so rich to be able to live on and be a part of what this beautiful Blounts Creek has to offer. I would like to leave this legacy for my family and other for many years to come. Chuck Wakid March 22, 2013 Page 2 In closing, please use common sense that I suspect that you can back by scientific knowledge to deny Martin Marietta's discharge permits. Along with this letter, I am submitting some pictures of coastal brackish water fish caught in this creek that are not found in fresh water. Thank you for accepting my comments along with pictures.
