RE: SOUTHPARK VILLAGE REVISIONS
Stormwater Management Plan Application
DWQ EXP No. 07-0973
Dear Ms. Van Der Wiele,
Kimley-Horn and Associates offers the following responses to your comments
regarding South Park Village dated 11 June 2007:
STORMWATER MANAGEMENT REVIEW:
1. Planting Plan for Extended Detention Wetlands:
a. The DWQ generally commends your plant selection for the extended
detention wetlands. However, you have specified a significant quantity
of Myrica cerifera `Georgia Gem'. Myrica cerifera [Wax Myrtle] fixes
atmospheric nitrogen and thus, is not recommended for use in a
stormwater BMP where nitrogen removal is an objective. DWQ
recommends substituting Vaccinium crassifolium ssp. Sempevirens
`Bloodstone' [Creeping blueberry].
The Wax Myrtle has been substituted for the Creeping Blueberry
on both Wetland Planting Plans.
b. Wetlands Grading and Planting Notes (Sheet L10.06):
i. Please specify plant provenance of the nursery material.
Nursery availability has been included on each of the plant
charts for the Wetland Plantings.
ii. Under Item 15, please clarify that any "donor" material
originating from a natural wetland must come from one that
has been included in the approved impacts authorized by the
401 Water Quality Certification issued by the NC Division of
Water Quality. Remaining wetlands onsite (or offsite) must
not be utilized for the purpose of amending the soils of your
Stormwater wetlands.
This note has been added to #IS as part of the Wetland
Planting notes.
2. Extended Detention Wetland No. 1:
a. Please confirm the orifice diameter of 12 inches.
The orifice diameter of 12 inches, associated with proposed
Wetland 1, is accurate and has been sized to facilitate the required
drawdown parameters.
