In your original permit application, Stream crossing number 3.1 was permitted as a jack and bore, with a 70 -foot construction corridor (30 feet permanent and 40 feet temporary) to account for removal of stream bank vegetation, potential bank grading and piling placement to accommodate a temporary equipment bridge. Due to the extremely incised stream channel, it is our understanding that the contractor determined that-the bore pit would require a depth and width exceeding that which could be . accomplished practicably. Therefore you have requested that stream crossing No. 3.1 be changed from a jack and bore to a conventional (trenched) crossing as an amendment to the existing 401 permit and NWP -12. This Office has no objection to this request and it is hereby granted. It is our understanding that no additional impacts will be incurred as a result of this change in crossing method. In your original application, Stream crossing number 7.1 was permitted as a jack and bore, with a 70 -foot construction corridor (30 feet permanent and 40 feet temporary) to account for removal of stream bank vegetation, potential bank grading- and piling placement to accommodate a temporary equipment bridge. It is our understanding that the contractor has been unable to successfully penetrate the rock since November, 2012, due to presence of sub - surface bed rock. Such being the case, your request to have Stream crossing No. 7.1 changed from a jack and bore to a conventional (trenched) crossing as an amendment to the existing 401 Certification is hereby granted. It Is our understanding that the stream Impacts expected during this trenched crossing were authorized in the original 401 Certification, and that no additional impacts will be incurred as a result of this change in crossing method.
