Ms. Karoly, Hope you are well. I am going to try my best to attend the hearing tomorrow at Beaufort Community College -- but just in case I can't make it, I have attached my comments below. All the best, Dave Schwartz Greenville, NC My name is Dave Schwartz, conservation co -chair of The Cypress Group of the Sierra Club, representing the interests of over 1,000 Sierra Club members in 24 counties of Northeastern North Carolina, including Beaufort County. We are your local chapter of the oldest, largest, and most influential grassroots environmental organization in the United States and are working to protect communities, wild places, and regularly scheduling service projects and outings designed for environmental education. The Supreme Court has recently determined that corporations are people and that is why Martin Marietta should play by the same rules followed by all the other people who live, work, and recreate along Blounts Creek. Blounts Creek is a unique habitat and Martin Marietta should find an alternative to their proposed discharge as it could be in violation of North Carolina water quality standards. The pH is not right and there are nowhere near the correct amount of fish studies that need to be conducted. Martin Marietta should also be a better potential neighbor, watching out for people and critters in the area where it wants to do business. As Henry David Thoreau says, "A man is rich in proportion to the number of things he can afford to let alone. " Thank you for your time. Submitted by Dave Schwartz, Conservation Co- Chair, Cypress Group of the Sierra Club, Greenville, NC. N
