Bartos SUBJECT: Cultural Resources Review for Salisbury Station Second Platform, Salisbury, P-5726, Rowan County, ER 18-3254 Thank you for your October 10, 2018, letter and the conceptual designs for the second platform project. As you know the Salisbury Passenger Station (RW0010) is individually listed in the National Register of Historic Places as well as being a contributing resource in the Salisbury Railroad Corridor National Register Historic District (RW0596). The project area is also within the locally designated Downtown Historic District, meaning that work within the district will also require a Certificate of Appropriateness from the Salisbury Historic Preservation Commission. As we discussed at our September 21, 2018, meeting with you and the architect for the project, our main concerns, having reviewed the conceptual design, will be the compatibility of the pedestrian bridge and appurtenances with the historic passenger station and the need for and design of a retaining wall. We will, therefore, look forward to reviewing additional plans as they are developed, including the materials proposed for use. The above comments are made pursuant to Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation’s Regulations for Compliance with Section 106 codified at 36 CFR Part 800. Thank you for your cooperation and consideration. If you have questions concerning the above comment, contact Renee Gledhill-Earley, environmental review coordinator, at 919-814-6579 or environmental.review@ncdcr.gov.
