HomeMy WebLinkAbout20121131 Ver 1_B-4645 Updated SMP and Permit Drawings_20130213Response to DWQ Comments
1) The question at the bottom of page 3 in the SMP regarding whether minimum design criteria
has been met was not answered.
The answer to the question is "Yes" minimum design criteria was met. This has been
updated.
2) The SMP does not address how stormwater will be diverted off of the bridges (deck drains,
piping system, etc.). Could additional information be provided to describe this. If water is going
to be dropped onto the floodplain, DWQ requests that rip rap pads be placed underneath.
Rip Rap Dissipator Pads have been added in plan view below all deck drains and the detail
has been added to the plan sheet and permit drawings. A note has been added in the General
Project Narrative of the SMP stating that deck drains do not discharge into the stream and will
utilize dissipator pads on the floodplain. They have also been added in the "PFSHs, Energy
Diss." tab. Since the water is dropping down from the bridge, the V 10 has not been calculated
and shows up highlighted red.
3) On Sheet 9 of 11, can either of the rip rap pads in the southeast quadrant be converted to pre-
formed scour holes?
Both of these were converted to pre - farmed scour holes in the plans and permit drawings.
The SMP was updated to show PFSI I's at the correct stations. When changing those to PFSH,
the "Pipe /Structure Dimensions'' cell is automatically highlighted red. This has nothing to do
with it not meeting design criteria but can't be edited.

General Project Narrative:
This project is replacing the existing dual structures ( #29 and 30) on US 52. The existing structures are five span, reinforced concrete decks on steel I -beam superstructures,
approximately 250' long. The proposed bridges are three span, 54" prestressed girders, approximately 270' long. Both existing structures will be used while the replacement
structure for bridge #30 is constructed approximately 50' downstream. Bridge #30 will then be utilized as the detour while structure #29 is removed and replace at the existing
location. Roadway improvements will be made to accommodate adequate lane and shoulder width and to tie to the new bridge location. Deck drains will be required on both
structures but will not discharge into the stream. Deck drains will discharge onto deck drain dissipator pads.
