Dave,
Per our earlier phone conversations concerning silt loss at Borrow Site 3 on Project U-2525C.
The site received approximately two inches of rain which resulted in an overwhelmed TSD that
allowed silt to enter an adjacent stream (see pictures). The breach was discovered on Friday
(5-7-21) during the required inspections. The TSD and outlet were repaired
immediately. Most of the silt from the breached device settled in high ground areas prior to
reaching the stream, particularly in areas that were depressed due to uprooted storm
damaged trees. There were no wetlands observed adjacent to the stream. The contractor
was directed to remove the sediment from the stream utilizing the sediment removal
guidelines and to place coir fiber matting along the banks of the stream to prevent additional
silt from entering (see pictures). The work was ordered promptly due to the prediction of
heavy thunderstorms which would have allowed silt that had settled outside of the stream to
wash down into the stream. Most of the work has been completed, but Della and I
recommended some adjustments to the coir fiber matting during our site visit today. If you
have any questions or would like to add additional comments or directives, please let us
know.
